The first addition to the Blogroll of this blog was Women In Mining. When we started I THINK MINING, the only other blog related to mining that I found was Women In Mining. Then one day the blog Women In Mining went off line. Now I am delighted to receive and announcement from it orginator that she is back, this time with a full-scale web site:
Women in Mining Community Portal Ltd has just built and launched the global Women in Mining website (http://www.womeninmining.net/). The portal, dedicated to all professional women in the natural resources sector, aims to be the first stop for news, events, seminars, jobs, who’s who, contacts, education in mining, useful links, databank of topical articles and more. It is not designed to compete with the already excellent news services and journals out there, rather it aims to offer women practical information on networking opportunities, business synergies, further education, job opportunities, a forum to exchange views and find service providers. It will centre on two main pillars: information and business opportunities.
This new site is well laid out with information on mining I have not previously seen: jobs; technical papers; events; news; all related to women in mining. Here is the information about the site’s originator:
Barbara Dischinger is a headhunter in the mining sector. She has 8 years experience spanning natural resources, automotive, FMCG and real estate sectors, having worked in London and in Brazil. Her special emphasis is on Latin America and other Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. She holds a BA in Political Sciences and a Masters in Conference Interpreting. Having had an international upbringing, she speaks English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, German and Italian fluently.
We wish her well with this new venture; but wish she were back in the business of blogging, i.e., writing those scurrilous pieces that truly turn a spotlight on the scallywags who challenge mining in all it aspects.
