A personal rant and consumer warning: I am to a mine tomorrow. I will take pictures. But I seem to have lost the cable that connects the Kodak digital camera to my computer. The cable is the only way to chargeh the camera and the only way to download the pictures.
Three shops later I have not been able to find a replacement cable. The young fellows at the shop where I bought the camera said: “We only sell the camera, not spares.” At Future Shop they told me: “We won’t even carry Kodak; everybody has troubles with them.” And at the third shop in the middle of the mall the kids said: “Try ordering on the web; Kodak makes it different so that it is incompatible with standard stuff.”
Thus my warning: DO NOT BUY A KODAK DIGITAL CAMERA. There is no way to get a new cable if you loose it.
I bought a new Cannon and a spare cable at the same time. So tomorrow I will take pictures of the mine and consult on technical issues.
Jack, It is nice to hear somebody else had troubles with the Kodak cable besides me. I can’t down load my pictures so I just pull the chip and put it in a chip reader. Luckily my Kodak came with a different power cable so I can still charge it. Tried finding another cable many times, but no luck. Why can’t they just standardize all this stuff and get it over with? Why is it that mining engineers have to solve all the simple stuff the technogeeks can’t seem to figure out?
It is human nature to misplace things. If that camera uses a memory card, perhaps it best to get an adapter that goes in USB? They are no more than $20 and can be found in electronic shops.
Always go with the Olympus Stylus WS800. We’ve been in the mining and construction field for over 30 years and when we found this digital gem last year it was a “God Send!” Perfect shots and has SD card or Cable for your PC.
HayJack,
It took some real thought here, to figure out why you would have considered a Kodak in the first place. But I fiannelly made the conection! Your ability to use antique technology to solve 21 st. Century problems. I beleive Kodak was the very first modern camera to be built. Perhaps, instead of your current camera recomendations, you should consult with Kodak, and fix the problem. You have a real talent for fixing problems at hand. Your tailings expertise deminstrates this, using old stuff to create new wonders. Kodak was a good choice, have them redesign it, to handle standard cables.
