A short posting to recommend some weekend reading. If you go to this link, you will find under the heading New on TechnoMine two newly posted documents:
- Management of Tailings and Waste-Rock in Mining Activities. This was published in January 2009 by the European Commission that deals with mine wastes.
- Independent Evaluation of Deep-Sea Mine Tailings Placement in Papua New Guinea. This was published in 2010 and comes from a group in Scotland of all places. Here is a link to a long discussion of this document.
Both are large documents, so have patience in downloading them . Both are worth downloading and reading if this weekend is rainy, cold, or otherwise the type of weekend when you would rather stay in and read. And if you would rather read a detective novel, at least get to them sometime if the topics interest or may affect you.

Jack, thanks for these references. I couldn’t get the European one as the title didn’t seem evident on the linked site. Could you perhaps check it is live please? However, I did find the one on Marlin, which, on first scan is fascinating reading and really underscores the complexity of entering a second or third world setting. It could be the nucleus for a fascinating debate or mock trial. Keep up the good work!
