Today I tasked myself with finding a different place to look for equipment and new technology in mining. If you Google the title of this piece, TechnoMine have the first set of links that you will be directed to. I decided to view the articles link, as these are the most up to date and would hopefully contain the most recent developments in the mining equipment.
Fatigue Management Science & Technology Update was the first article I clicked on and I was brought to the site of another fellow blogger. The author is one Vivien Hui, and she has dedicated her blog to mining operations equipment and technology. According to abstract, her passions in the industry include:
“the integration of technology, mobile equipment, operations and people to increase productivity and safety”
In the initial piece I had linked to, a number of fatigue related technologies were elaborated upon. I really liked the Seeing Machines/Guardvant products, who both utilised facial recognition software to determine type and level of operator fatigue. These include, identifying a range of facial responses that are indicative of tiredness, such as the measurement of eye movement, head position and rotation, eyelid aperture, etc. or through operator behaviour and machine performance to assess fatigue.
On the whole I found the piece and her blog informative and personable. I went on to have a look at a number of other pieces including her most recent posting on Career Choice options in mining which, as someone relatively new to the industry, I really enjoyed.
While EquipMine and TechnoMine are a great place for collecting information on mining innovation, people in the industry are the sources, so hopefully Vivien will keep publishing new articles in the area of equipment and technology as I would certainly like to keep up to date with them.
Jack, Thank you so much for the kind words!
