While in Santiago, which I left yesterday, I went to the Museum of Fine Arts. They have an exhibition of old maps—those gorgeous colorful and ornate affairs replete with curlicues and swirls. I spent much time just stunned by the size and beauty of the maps. I will never be able to buy one of them. But if you are in Santiago, take time out to go see this amazing museum. The maps are worth the visit alone, but in addition, the sculptures, and other art is amongst the best of collections I have seen. Only the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena surpasses this collection.
On the topic of maps: Yet another mining map from the productive studios of InfoMine. The newly printed map of Australian mines is available for purchase at the link given. I post about this because I know and like the folk who produce the map. Olga in particular does a magnificent job. At least we can afford one, and I suspect that if I ask nicely I may even get one for nothing. The cost will be the framing thereof.
Enjoy.
