Conferences like the recent Tailings & Mine Waste 2012 are often accompanied by a trade show. At Tailings & Mine Waste there was a great hall with booths of almost every company I know of in the mining, and specifically, the tailings industry. I wish I could list them all, for they deserve our support for supporting the conference.
Instead I write about only one. The picture above is of the neatest gift they gave me. It is a USB stick on which is loaded all their promotional information. A wealth of interesting material.
I avoided the many pens on the many booth tables, although I indulged in too many candies from those bold enough not to care about healthy snacks. I avoided the envelope openers, water bottles, mouse pads, and other enticing gifts. Just how much can I lug back and productively use? Only the USB stick.
It was given to me by Joshua Kolz, P.E. of HB Wick Drains, a division of Hayward Baker. I first met him four years ago when I visited his office seeking help with a knotty wick drain problem. He help me a great deal; and right now many, many wick drains are going into Suncor’s Pond 5 as a result of our collaboration (and the work of many others.) Josh is a great engineer and knowledgable & insightful about wick drains. My advise: if you need practical & informed help re wick drains, contact him at jkolz@HaywardBaker.com
If you want one of those nifty USB stick, also contact him. He told me he would be delighted to distribute more.
Disclosure: I was not paid or persuaded to write this. As always, I write only of what interests me, and of what I hope will interest you.
