The winter 2013/2014 copy of Mining & Exploration has just landed on my desk. There on page 9, is an advert for eBee from Spacial Technologies and senseFly. It is a drone that enables you as the ad says, “Take your own aerial photos and produce precise orthomosaics & 3D models.”
Many years ago on this blog I wrote about the benefits of drones in mining, if only we had them. At the time there were none. In the interim, a number of prospective drone makers have contacted with with propositions, none of which i deemed sufficiently advanced to write about.
Now it looks as though the mining drone is here.
As the site tells us:
Spatial Technologies is proud to announce a new distribution partnership with senseFly. senseFly is based in Switzerland and develops and assembles autonomous mini-drones and related software solutions for civil professional applications such as accurate mapping of mining sites, quarries, forests, construction sites and crops. Spatial Technologies will be carrying the senseFly eBee as well as the senseFly swinglet CAM.
Sounds too good to be true. If you know more or are the first to use this, please let us know.
PS. As required by law, I declare that I write this because it fascinates and excites me. I have not been paid and I have no commercial interest in this—although I wish I did.
