Pluck the fruits of pleasure. Smoke a pipe; watch ballet or opera; lay with a lover. Done all this, this week.
Smoking a pipe is great. Pull that wood & shape of aroma. Stuff with sweet tobacco. Get just the right consistency. Brandish the lighter to get the smoke flowing. And sit back and savour the flavour and smell of bliss.
Tonight I smoked a pipe or two to Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty. Have you seen his Swan Lake, or Nutcracker? And drank a bottle of Jack Daniel’s honey.
Dream of and watch bodies smooth, soft, and of perfect shape in motion to love and desire. Recall the reality of this in rooms away from family and censorious mothers who know not of the doings of their offspring. Or of families and societies of virtue.
For it is all a fairy tale. A rejection of the scare of Grimm’s. A rejection of feminist sensitivities. A cure by music and flesh.
Think Edward Sissorhands, Dorian Gray, Carmen, CarMan, and the great ballets of Tchaikovsky. Putin sat through his music at the Olympics and saw no irony with Russia hate. Then he invaded. And told Obama to fuck off.
I prefer opera to ballet. In watching ballet, I keep wondering why they do not open their mouths and sing to the music. Admittedly in ballet the bodies are always lithe and sensuous. There are no fat ladies. But compare Siegfried and Brunhilde to Sleeping Beauty, and you soon see why opera wins.
In Matthew Bourne’s ballet they live happy ever after, having copulated and produced a baby. Yet another family of joy. Although the original tale is less sanguine. A. N. Roquelaure’s The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy is far more fun–the most erotic three novels I have ever read. Many pipes smoked and brandies drunk in the reading thereof.
So go into the weekend. Go to Whistler. Go to the movies, DVD, porn books, and bottles of rare vintage. Smoke a pipe. Lay where you will or can. And contemplate old stories, modern interpretations, and reality. Enjoy all the pleasures of living and life. “For I am happy,” as one said to me this week as I was given a picture of kissing a dolphin.
