The Huffington Post was sold this week for millions.  For years I have dipped into it occasionally for a balance on the news.  I even fought the folk here at InfoMine telling them the format is attractive and easy to use.  At last this advice is getting implemented–but only partially.

During a career as a consultant spanning nearly forty years, I have consulted to many different types of clients.  Some I would say I have worked for; a few I have worked with.  In this latter category, I include the best client every, and the second best, who moved on this week.

Should your mining company run a blog, sponsor a tweet, or facebook away to all the world?  Every mining manager has asked this question.  Few receive intelligent answers.  Those amongst their staff with blogger instincts or skills, plead for a blog, write a blog, and persist until they offend some sensitive individual.  Then the blog [...]

Last week we participated in a mining-related meeting.  Present were five folk from the mining company paying the bill—an indication of the significance to their operations of the issues on the table.  Also present were experts from six consulting companies.   One of the companies was the “engineer of record” as they are doing the detailed design and construction [...]

The flight was full [...]

Monday morning brings: the continuing heat of a high pressure system;   the incessant whine of grass cutting; and the clanging of garbage collection trucks. Monday also brings a slew of new mining-related newsletters and promotional literature.  That from The International Council of Mining and Metals is worth reading—and comment.  This issue deals with the usual: responsible mining [...]

Just a short note to those who have recently posted insightful comments on articles on this blog.  I am “holidaying” with grandkids in California and can barely access the internet.  But the details of the blog, including vetting of the spam comments and posting of the valid ones, are managed by staff at InfoMine in Vancouver.  I owe [...]
