Jack,

Thanks for the tour. This is a subject we've been informally polling industry people about over the last little while. As a veteran, have you found that camp food has changed much over the years? Or is it all very site specific? What is the fate of a vegetarian at these tables?

Ryan: In reply to yuor questions: I think the quality has improved over the years, considering that the camps I have been to have become bigger and hte number of meals to be served has grown. The best camp for a vegetarian is EKATI. More fruit and vegetables and salads there than anywhere else I have been.
Thanks, Jack

Comment on Xstrata Tailings Dam Failure Imminent? by Michael Davies

VERY challenging question Jack. First, the term "expert" is a challenge. Xstrata certainly understands the implication of a tailings facility incident and has taken the measure to get "expert" information on the stewardship of the facility that gives them an opinion to use in their stewardship process. Having a conflicting opinion from another "expert" cannot be dimissed and, without ANY implication on either "side" here, needs to be fully evaluated. In my own experience where such disagreement exists, a further party should likely be brought in. However, this can get even further complicated as people start to compare opinions, company colours get invovled, salemanship etc. etc.

The BEST solution here is the use of a review board. A truly independent body retained by the owner but made up of at least two individuals that are NOT from the same organization and have no link to one another other than professional peer relationships...and certainly no economic gain from the project/owner's successes.

It is a tough question and I don't want to offer a simple solution as none exists....I instead offer an alternative approach which is instead of getting opinions that can be debated, get a consistent third party "expert" oversight by way of a review board/panel.

Good information, thanks!

Does anyone out there know anything about Resource Benefits Sharing Agreements? For example, if a group of First Nations want to form an ec dev board or investment group, what would the breakdown/formula look like for resources such as: mining, fishing, forestry.
